The workshop

One couch at a time, on Humewood Drive

K&K Furnitures is a working upholstery workshop in Parklands. Frames are jointed here, foam is cut here, fabric is sewn here. Nothing arrives in a flat-pack box with our name stuck on it.

That's slower than a warehouse, and it's the whole point — it means we can build to the wall you're measuring against, in the fabric you actually want, and fix it for you in five years' time.

How it's made

Four stages, none of them skipped

A couch is only as good as the parts you can't see once it's covered. Here's the order we build in.

The frame

Kiln-dried hardwood, jointed and glued — not stapled chipboard. This is the part you never see and the part that decides whether the couch lasts twenty years or two.

The foam

High-resilience foam cut to the frame, layered with a fibre wrap so the seat holds its shape instead of flattening into a dip where everyone sits.

The fabric

Cut, matched and sewn by hand. Patterns are lined up across seams and cushions, which is slower and is the difference you notice from across the room.

The finish

Buttons pulled and tied by hand, piping welted, legs turned and fitted. Then it gets sat on, checked, and only then does it leave the workshop.
